Who am I?

I'm Chartered Engineer working in telecommunications with an interest in physics and a childlike love of radio. I'm also a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) Ambassador and work with local schools and colleges encouraging students to think about University, to step outside their comfort zones, to consider Technology/Engineering as a career, to do amazing things that will look great on their CVs and, where I can, to do all this with extra encouragement to the young women.

Radio and me…

I've been licensed since the late 80's and enjoyed the challenge of CW and QRP the whole time. Initially it was born out of necessity; a youth with no money for radios and no garden for aerials. I had to build my own transceivers which meant QRP and CW for cost and simplicity and the CW helped with keeping TVI to a minimum while living in flats and apartments. That initial terror of calling CQ on the key brought with it the excitement of communicating across borders in the most basic way imaginable and, obviously, appealed to the inner spy in me. I've dabbled in all areas of the hobby since qualifying but I always come back to my miniature, QRP, CW radio sets and the simple fun they deliver.
